🌭 July Updates from the Zoomies Pack 🍦
Howdy folks!
Have you all been enjoying the summer so far? The girls and I have been exploring our local prairies and forest preserves quite a bit. Is it just me or are the ticks way worse this year? Our tick count is up to 14 🙅♀️. All discovered before they attached to anyone, thank god, but despite the flea and tick medication and my most thorough post-trip preening, we’ve still found several crawling around at home 🤮. I say just burn the whole house down.
In actual Zoomies news, we’ve been super busy and boy oh boy do we have some major treats to share this month. Construction, design, an early bird giveaway (keep scrolling, you’re gonna want to pay attention to this), hiring, and one last open house before we officially open our doors.
Let’s get into it, starting with the big one.
CONSTRUCTION IS OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY 🏗️
It has actually been under way for almost a month now, which is SO FREAKING EXCITING. The team has finished cutting all the trenches for plumbing and laying pipe (get your mind out of the gutter, you). Next we’ll be framing out the new walls, running electrical, and ductwork for HVAC. We also have to replace the doors, punch in some new doors, and pour concrete back into the trenches once we pass the plumbing inspection. Once that’s all done, we’ll get into finishes, fixtures, and equipment. Oh my!
FOR THE DESIGN NERDS 🪑
I probably have a missed calling in another life as a house flipper or an interior designer. Designing the facility has always been one of my most favorite pre-launch projects and now it’s time to stop daydreaming and start making final decisions. To date we’ve locked in our countertops, light fixtures, tile, bar stools, park seating, and equipment. Feast your eyes on everything we’ve picked out so far:
I’ve said this before, but the vibe we’re going for is a blend of industrial and organic. We’re embracing the gritty charm of the building and infusing it with warm light, natural textures, rounded edges, pops of bright color and live greenery.

We are running as fast as we can towards a fall grand opening. Really at this point it’s just how quickly materials arrive and the city comes out for our inspections. We have already requested all the inspections so hopefully they take place promptly and we pass with flying colors.

With our launch now closer on the horizon, we have also officially begun the hiring process. The job postings have been sitting out there since April and passively accepting applications, but now we’re actually starting to review candidates and extend invitations to first round interviews. If you’d like to be considered for a role at Zoomies, go ahead and submit your application here through Homebase. If you’ve already applied, you do not need to apply again.
Please note: Because we’re a startup, we’re only able to bring on folks who already have relevant experience in the role they’re applying for. It simplifies training and makes day one smoother for everyone. If this would be your first rodeo in the role, we love your can-do attitude, but this round isn’t the one for you. Rest assured, there will be entry-level opportunities in the future.
In addition to having relevant experience, the ideal Zoomies team member loves a challenge, is comfortable navigating ambiguity, is a self-starter, patient, reliable, and kind. Oh, and they must LOVE dogs. Obviously.

ONE LAST OPEN HOUSE 🏠
We’ve hosted two of the three open houses we’d planned for the summer and there’s only ONE left before we open. Thank you to everyone who already came out! It’s such a blast getting to meet you all.
The final open house is on Saturday, August 1st from 11a to 2p. Can’t say for sure what state the building will be in at that point, but I highly encourage you (yes, you) to come out and say hi. If you haven’t seen Zoomies in person yet, you still have time! If you’ve come out to an open house before and want to check out the construction progress, we’d love to see you again.

GETTING SENTIMENTAL FOR A SEC
Next month will officially mark 2 years since I quit my job to start this business. For some of you, the wait has been significantly longer, since we first started talking about Zoomies back in January 2020 (shoutout to the early day OGs).
Our dogs have gotten older, some of us have welcomed new dogs into our lives, and a few of us have had to say the hardest goodbye. It’s difficult to express how grateful we are to all of you who have patiently waited for us to get this business open. Without all of you following along, showing your support, and buying early bird memberships, this very literally would have been impossible.
We knew from the beginning that pulling this off would require a big community of enthusiastic dog parents. The sheer number of you has been instrumental in securing funding for Zoomies.
